• Fastest round of the season.
• New WRC 2 tyres launched in Finland.
• Five former DMACK Trophy runners in WRC 2.
• Round four of DMACK-backed FIA Junior WRC.

DMACK is looking forward to the challenge of the fastest event in the FIA World Rally Championship calendar next week when Neste Rally Finland offers some of the most exciting roads of the season.

It’s also where DMACK’s Ott Tänak set six fastest stage times last year and it’s hoped that the firm’s DMG+2 gravel tyres will be able to repeat that performance on the flat-out Finnish forest roads.

The team’s lead crew Elfyn Evans and Dan Barritt were unfortunate to miss out on a pre-event test after the test car was damaged earlier in the week but they’re aiming to push hard on the flat-out, high-commitment roads to continue their impressive run of top-times this season.

The pair have set fastest times on four rallies this year in their M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC. They will use DMG+2 tyres primarily in the nominated GS62 soft compound but have 16 hard GH23 available as an alternative – a maximum of 28 tyres can be used over the weekend.

It’s all change in WRC 2 as DMACK plays its gravel joker for this rally. Competitors have an upgraded version of the DMG+22 with lighter construction and a new medium compound – more suited to the remaining events of the season.

They will use GH44 medium as the primary choice with the soft GS62B also an option.

Proving its success as the WRC entry level, five former drivers from the Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy will line up in WRC 2 at Finland – Tom Cave, Quentin Gilbert, Gus Greensmith, Osian Pryce and Max Vatanen.

Finland will be Pryce’s second prize drive in a M-Sport Fiesta R5 after crashing heavily on the first day in Poland. Next week’s event is also round four of the DMACK-backed FIA Junior WRC championship where Spain’s Nil Solans has a 39-point lead.

Rally Finland starts on Thursday evening with the Harju stage in the centre of Jyväskylä but then crews face a huge 16-hour day on Friday with 145km of action. Saturday sees two runs over the iconic Ouninpohja test, the longest of the rally, while four stages on Sunday finish off the hectic weekend.

Dick Cormack, DMACK managing director, said: “Our WRC tyres were very competitive in Finland last year when Ott set a string of top times and hopefully the weather will be in our favour this time. Competitors in WRC 2 will now benefit from two new compounds, providing them with a more competitive package for the remainder of the season.”

Elfyn Evans, DMACK WRC driver, said: “Rally Finland is a favourite with all the drivers thanks to its fantastic roads and I’m really looking forward to the challenge. Poland’s extreme weather conditions didn’t favour us so hopefully we can look forward to better conditions to push hard in Finland.”
