DMACK Launches New WRC 2 Tyre In Finland

• DMACK plays joker to upgrade WRC 2 tyres.
• Two new compounds, suited to remaining 2017 events.
• Construction improvements to boost performance.
• Four former DMACK Trophy competitors will use the new tyres in Finland.

DMACK will unveil upgraded versions of its DMG+22 gravel tyre at this month’s Neste Rally Finland after playing its joker for list one tyres suitable for R5 and WRC 2 cars. The move will see the introduction of two new performance compounds, more suited to the remaining events in 2017, with some specific construction tweaks.

The new compounds will be GS62B soft and GH44 hard and have been developed to give DMACK competitors an advantage on the final four gravel rallies of the season. The new hard option is a medium compound and is significantly softer than the current hard tyre which was designed to cover hot events such as Sardinia.

Both the new soft and hard options benefit from a lighter weight construction, reducing the weight by around 1kg to enhance performance without losing puncture resistance and structural integrity.

The new GH44 has been nominated as the main choice in Finland, with competitors having the additional option of a maximum of 16 GS62B tyres.

Among the DMACK WRC 2 runners in Finland are four former competitors from the Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy – Tom Cave (Hyundai), Quentin Gilbert (Skoda), Osian Pryce (Ford) and Max Vatanen (Ford) – demonstrating just how valuable the series was in helping young drivers to make the next step in their careers.

The FIA’s joker system allows tyre manufacturers in the FIA World Rally Championship to homologate a new specification tyre once per season. The new variant must still offer two different compounds with the same tread pattern and construction.

Dick Cormack, DMACK managing director, said: “We are continually looking at ways to evolve our products by increasing their performance potential and the new compounds are more suited to the remaining events this season. The construction upgrades and new hard compound will, I believe, provide our drivers with an even more competitive product for gravel rallies.”
